Mr. Thelen has taught a wide variety of ages but has a special place for private voice because of their enthusiasm and the individual learning that goes into private lessons! Private voice is a great way to challenge and learn more about how your voice works and how to make healthier sounds and improve! Mr. Thelen enjoys singing and teaching a variety of genres of music, including classical, opera, art songs, pop, musical theater, Disney, and more! Mr. Thelen has experience in music directing and producing multiple musicals, including Oklahoma, Honk Jr., The Wizard of Oz, Seussical Jr., Shrek the Musical, and Guys and Dolls. One of Mr. Thelen’s most significant accomplishments as a teacher is having the Staples-Motley A cappella Choir selected to sing at the Minnesota Music Educators Association Mid-Winter Clinic. This is among the highest honors to be selected to sing at the convention. His choir recently at Detroit Lakes High School was a featured choir at the Concordia College Choir Festival. He has also served as assistant director of the Staples Area Men’s Chorus and Artistic Director of the Staples Area Women’s Chorus. While directing these community ensembles, he has helped organize community festivals involving area high school students, such as “Her Voice, Her Song” and “Real Men Sing.” He holds a Bachelor of Music in Music Education from Concordia College, Moorhead, and a Master of Music in Music Education from North Dakota State University. He currently resides in Minneapolis, Minnesota, where he enjoys biking, caring for his plants, and spending time with his two cats and dog.
